Planning a Camping Trip? Here Are 5 Questions People Always Ask Us

Planning a camping trip is exciting, but it also comes with a lot of questions.

If you’ve never stayed at Sunbury Oromocto Park & Campground before, you might be wondering things like:

How do reservations work?
What time do we check in?
Can we have visitors?

We get messages and emails about these things all the time, especially from first-time campers.

To make planning easier, we’ve put together five of the most common questions people ask before booking their stay at Sunbury Oromocto Park & Campground.

If you're planning a visit this season, these answers should help you feel prepared before you arrive.

1. Do I Need to Pay a Deposit to Reserve a Campsite?

Yes. To confirm a campsite reservation, we require a 50% deposit.

Here’s how the process works:

  1. Submit a camping request through our website.

  2. We check availability for your requested dates.

  3. We send you the total cost of your stay and the deposit amount.

  4. Once the deposit is received, your reservation is officially confirmed.

Until the deposit is received, the site is not guaranteed and may be released to another guest.

This system helps us fairly manage reservations and ensures campsites are held for guests who are committed to their stay.

2. What Time Is Check-In and Check-Out?

Another very common question is about arrival and departure times.

Our campground schedule is simple:

Check-in: 12:00 PM on your arrival day
Check-out: No later than 11:00 AM on your departure day

This timing allows our team to prepare campsites for the next guests arriving later that day.

If you arrive earlier than expected, feel free to stop by the office and check in with staff. We’ll always try to help if your site is ready.

3. Can Visitors Come to Our Campsite?

Yes, visitors are welcome at the campground.

If friends or family want to stop by during your stay, they simply need to register at the office and purchase a day pass when they enter the park.

Day passes are $10 per vehicle.

The only exception is immediate family members (parents or children of the registered camper), who do not need to pay the visitor fee.

This policy helps us manage traffic in the park and ensures everyone using the facilities is properly registered.

4. Do You Sell Ice, Firewood, or Snacks?

Yes — our office also operates as a small campground store and canteen.

Many campers forget a few essentials when packing, so we keep a variety of helpful items available throughout the season.

Some of the things you’ll find at the office include:

  • Firewood bundles (with paper, kindling, and dry logs)

  • Bags of ice

  • Chips, chocolate bars, and snacks

  • Drinks and cold beverages

  • Camping essentials like bug spray and sunscreen

  • Hard ice cream made in New Brunswick

  • Old-fashioned five-cent candies

Firewood can even be delivered directly to your campsite by staff, which makes it easy to keep the campfire going.

5. When Are You Open for the Season?

Our campground follows the same seasonal schedule each year.

We open to the public on the May long weekend and remain open throughout the summer season.

Our final day open to the public is always Labour Day Monday.

This schedule allows us to operate during the warmest part of the year while preparing the park for the next season during the fall and winter months.

Camping season in New Brunswick typically runs from late spring to early fall due to weather conditions. According to Tourism New Brunswick, summer is the most popular time for outdoor travel in the province.

Tip: Check the Events Calendar Before Your Visit

One thing many first-time campers don’t realize is that we host a variety of events throughout the summer.

Some of our larger events include:

  • Live music concerts

  • Kids Day

  • Our annual Float-A-Thon fundraiser for the local food bank

We also host smaller events such as:

  • Craft & Snack days

  • Friday Night Bingo

  • Washer toss tournaments

  • Karaoke nights

Many campers plan their trips around these events because they add a fun community atmosphere to the campground.

You can always see what’s coming up by visiting our Events Calendar page.
